Las Vegas For The Non-Gambler

Las Vegas
There is a common misconception that the only thing to do in Las Vegas is to gamble and this is simply not true. Whilst many people do go to Vegas in the hope of finding their fortune on the slot machines or roulette tables it is also entirely possible to visit Las Vegas without waging a single dime on the gaming floor.

Nowadays the Las Vegas Strip features a number of mega-casinos that proudly showcase gimmicky themes, jaw dropping architecture and a whole host of nongambling amusements and entertainments. Below is just a small selection of some of the better ones, which all serve as worthwhile attractions in themselves.

Stratosphere

An icon of the city, the Stratosphere is a 1149 foot tower with two thrill rides. The world's higher roller coaster and the stomach churning free-fall Big Shot, both of which are a must for any adrenaline junkie.

New York New York

Recreating the Manhattan skyline in its facade, with imitations of the Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn Bridge, the New York New York hotel is another property which operates a roller coaster, the Manhattan Express, that is guaranteed to get you buzzing.

The Bellagio

Possibly the most famous free attraction in Las Vegas, the lake in the front of this wonderful palatial style building springs to life every night with the sight of over 1000 fountains dancing to an accompanying musical score. An incredible spectacle that you will want to see over and over again. Culture buffs will also want to check out the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art.

The Venetian

The largest hotel in the world, The Venetian is famous for the gondolier rides on offer in its indoor canal. Shoppers will love the range of boutiques and retail outlets on offer in its shopping mall too.

Luxor

A highly impressive glass covered pyramid structure with a giant sphinx outside, The Luxor is famous for its 10 mile high beam of light that blazes a trail deep into the night sky. Something which can be seen more than 50km away from the Las Vegas Strip.

Treasure Island

This hotel features a pirate ship and man-of-war out of the front in the lagoon which stages a sea battle every 90 minutes from 4.30pm until midnight every day.

Circus Circus

A great choice for families travelling with children this hotel is the largest permanent big top in the world. It has a small amusement park called Adventuredome and free circus acts.
This selection just scratches the surface of all non-gaming sights and attractions in Las Vegas, but it does prove that a vacation there doesn't have to all be about gambling if you don't want it to be.
